Many people unfamiliar with the word generally believe that it's an separate island somewhere west of Montreal although in actual fact, there is a lot more to it. Brugel lived in Courtice in the town of Oshawa. Her early ambition was to dance but an increase in her height meant she outgrew her dance partner. The former dancers usually turn into acting and Brugel wasn't an exception. An instructor in drama at her high school helped push Bruce in the direction she was looking for. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out for the role of Anne in the school's annual production. The student tried it out, to play the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. It led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned A Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Through the years since then, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 plays on both small and large screens receiving the most media attention, when she landed the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actor to appear in the season 1 and was only seen in a few episodes.
